Preventative HYGIENE BRAUN ORAL B PLAQUE REMOVER CHARGING AND MAINTENANCE With regard to charging the nickel cadmium /hydride batteries, we advise that completely charging, discharging and then recharging twice per year, will ensure the batteries have maximum capacity available. This means charging the unit for 16 uninterrupted hours, and then discharging completely through normal use (will take approximately 2 weeks). Unplug the charger so that the handle will not receive power during this discharge period. Once the unit has discharged it would be fully charged for sixteen uninterrupted hours again. For handles without a charging light, be sure that the on/off button is in the off position before recharging or else the handle will not accept the charge. Now the handle can be used on the plugged-in charger on a daily basis for approximately six months, at which time the complete discharge/recharge procedure should be followed. There will not be a problem with leaving the handle on the charger on a daily basis, as the capacity of the cells was established during your initial charge/discharge/recharge procedure. However the unit must still be completely discharged every 6 months. You cannot overcharge the unit. |
To ensure there is no confusion, we have summarized the above in three easy to follow steps: • Initially charge for 16 uninterrupted hours. • Discharge power unit fully through normal use and recharge once again for 16 uninterrupted hours. This will establish the low and high in the battery memory. The unit can be reconnected to its charger for day-to-day use, as it will never overcharge. • Twice a year fully discharge and recharge your power unit (a full 16 hour recharge) to maximize battery life. Remember to remove the brush heads after every use, as this is crucial in maintaining the watertight seal located under the metal shaft that the brush fits into. When the brush head is left on the power handle after brushing, it causes a build-up of water and toothpaste residue. Over time it will cause the seal ring between the plastic and metal shaft to be pushed down further and further, eventually causing the unit to no longer maintain the watertight seal. To avoid this from happening we suggest that, after brushing, always remove the brush head from the power handle, and then store the handle upright. |
